We are thrilled to announce that Y2Y Harvard Square has had another successful season opening on October 15th! As the cooler months descend upon Massachusetts, young adults experiencing homelessness in our community have a safe and affirming space to seek shelter and sanctuary.
We are excited to share some of the highlights of the opening night with all of our supporters who helped make this happen!
17 young adults entered the bed lottery on the first night, and now have a safe place to stay for the next 30 days! In addition to a warm bed, they will have access to hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, and case management services.
We were able to provide emergency 1-night stays for the first time post-pandemic. 4 young adults entered and won the shelter lottery ensuring them a safe place to sleep for the night. As the need for emergency beds grows, we are excited to be able to come closer to meeting the demand. No young adult should be forced to stay on the streets, at a train station, or in any other perilous situation. Y2Y is proud to extend our reach and be able to welcome more youth into the shelter through emergency beds this season!
Finally, we know a peer-to-peer youth shelter could not be successful without the community. We would love to give a huge shout-out and enormous thanks to the 16 student-staff members and volunteers who made the night go without a hitch, our partner organizations who referred young adults to the shelter, and supporters like YOU who have helped us keep the doors open for another shelter season!
As we reflect on this season opening, we are filled with gratitude for the support of our community, the resilience of our guests, and the commitment of our team. Together, we are making a difference one night at a time!
